Elon Musk Says Banned Twitter Users Won't Be Able To Get Back On For A While
According to Elon Musk, people
deplatformed by Twitter will not be allowed back for at least a few weeks,
ruling out former President Donald Trump's return before the midterms.
Twitter's head of safety and
integrity posted about attempts to manipulate conversations about next week's
midterms, which include Musk's tweet about the process.
Early Wednesday, Musk tweeted
that Twitter would not allow anyone deplatformed for violating Twitter rules to
return until a clear process was in place.
Furthermore, he said a content
moderation council would include people with divergent viewpoints, including
people from the civil rights movement and groups vulnerable to hate-fueled
violence.
The mob attacking the U.S.
Capitol on Jan. 6 resulted in Trump being permanently suspended from Twitter in
January 2021.
He signed a deal to buy Twitter
for $44 billion in April, said he had tried to terminate it, and then said in a
letter that he was willing to pay that price. His deal to buy the platform was
finalized last week, according to Musk.
As of now, Musk has not stated
who may be allowed back into the company after the takeover.
Previously, Trump told Fox News
in April that he wouldn't use Twitter even if reinstated, saying he was
committed to his Truth Social platform. Musk said he would allow Trump back on
Twitter if he completes his plan to buy the company.
His comment on Monday was in
reference to questions about Trump. "If I had a dollar for every time
someone asked me if Trump would return to this platform, Twitter would be flush
with cash!" he said.
